The Challenge
Financial data is typically shown in flat charts across multiple monitors. Traders need to process huge amounts of information simultaneously. The challenge was exploring whether a VR environment could make that data feel more spatial and intuitive — turning numbers into something you can literally look around in.
The Idea
Building a VR Experience for Trading
Covid Pandemic has disrupted the normal office ways of working, Offices are empty. The Idea is recreate the expereience of a packed trading floor from home itself. Infact Citigroup was one the first banks to consider using HoloLens headsets for traders.
This Project is about creating a new way of trading : instead of looking at multiple monitors, a trader can simply use his VR headset and get full immersive experience through voice commands/gestures. User just need to turn head to view today's market buzz or watch top stocks for the day.
Although the VR technology isn't quite ready for primetime, but it's rapidly improving.
Tech Stack
React 360 is library on top of React, that can create immersive 360 content on the web.
Demo
You can try the demo without the headset also on the desktop. To get the immersive 360 Experience , you need to open the demo link in phone and place it in Google Cardboard/ VR Headset. Hover Cursor on any Stock and it would be added to portfolio , latest world financial news is shown also a news stream is also playing to help trader decide top pick of the day.
What I Learned
3D visualization isn't always better — it needs to add meaning, not just novelty. The best VR data viz reveals patterns you'd miss in 2D. React 360 also had its limitations at the time, which pushed me to think more carefully about when a native-first approach would have been the right call.
